How it works
Speech Dock runs entirely on your computer. That's the main difference from most voice services — and the reason you can trust the app with confidential recordings.
Everything is computed on-device
When you dictate, the sound is processed right on your computer and turned into text locally. If you enabled text improvement, that happens on the device too.
What this means for you
- Audio never leaves the device. The recording isn't sent to a server or stored in the cloud.
- No internet needed to work. It's only required to download the app and updates. Dictation itself works offline.
- No account needed. You don't have to register to start dictating.
- History stays with you. Past transcripts are stored only on your computer — see History.
Why it matters
Voice and transcripts often contain personal things: work notes, conversations, ideas. When everything is computed on-device, that data doesn't depend on someone else's servers, their policies, or their uptime.
