Microphone
Speech Dock needs microphone access to hear your speech and process it right on your device.
How it looks
On first launch the app usually asks for microphone permission itself. If you grant it, there's nothing else to do.
If access was already denied
macOS
Open:
System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone
and turn on the toggle next to Speech Dock.
Linux
Check that:
- the correct input device is selected in your system sound settings;
- the microphone isn't taken by another app;
- for a Bluetooth headset, the device is connected in input mode, not output only.
If you use PipeWire or PulseAudio, reconnecting the device and restarting the app sometimes helps.
How to tell it's working
- a recording indicator appears during dictation;
- the sound doesn't drop into silence;
- text appears in the active app after recording ends.
